Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Group I: Systemically healthy subjects with clinically healthy gingiva 1) No bleeding on probing, normal probing sulcus depth and bone levels (According to 2017 classification) Group II: Systemically healthy subjects with Stage III or IV periodontitis 1) Generalized sites with PPD and CAL more than or equal to 6mm, 5mm respectively. Radiographic bone loss till middle or apical third of root (According to 2017 classification) Group III: Subjects with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with clinically healthy gingiva 1) HbA1c levels 6.5-7.9% 2) Periodontal status according to 2017 classification Group IV: Subjects with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Stage III or IV periodontitis 1) HbA1c levels 6.5-7.9% 2) Periodontal status according to 2017 classification

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Pregnant and lactating women 2) Patients with immunodeficiency disorders 3) Patients with other systemic inflammatory conditions like sepsis, pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, inflammatory bowel disorders, chronic kidney disease, atherosclerosis, COPD, asthma, hepatitis. 4) History of periodontal treatment in past 6 months. 5) History of antibiotic therapy in past 3 months. 6) Subjects who are not willing to participate in study.

Quantify and correlate the levels of the salivary biomarkers- sTREM-1, IL-1B, MMP-8 in health and periodontitis patients as well as evaluate the role of a systemic risk factor- Diabetes Mellitus in the upregulation of these biomarkers.Timepoint: at baseline
