Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients of either sex belonging to American society of Anaesthesiologists(ASA) physical status I-III scheduled to undergo elective surgery who are able to understand this study protocol.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The patients On treatment with drugs known to effect gastric motility,renal failure,intracranial space occupying lesions,patients who are having increased baseline gastric residual volume(pregnancy,undergoing GI surgery,poorly controlled diabetes mellitus,gastro esophageal reflux disease,hiatus hernia,BMI >35kgm-2 and who refuse to participate in the study.

MeasureTime frame
The effect of ingestion of 200ml of clear water preoperatively, immediately after ingestion, one hour and two hours after ingestion on gastric content and volume in adults undergoing elective surgeryTimepoint: The following will be assessed by ultrasonographic assessment of gastric content and volume preoperatively,one hour and two hours after ingestion of clear water prior to elective surgery in adults.Data will be compiled and appropriate stastical test will be used to analyse the results.
