Intervention1: 1.Lumbar epidural analgesia 2.Combined spinal epidural: 1.Lumbar epidural analgesia:Inj.Ropivacaine 0.125% (9ml) + Inj.Fentanyl 25mcg (0.5ml) + Inj.MgSO4 50mg (0.5ml) - total volume 10m

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA physical status 1&2. Parturients with singleton pregnancy aged 21-35 years,at gestational maturity of 37-41 weeks with cephalic presentation and spontaneous onset of labour. Active phase of labour with cervical dilatation of 4cms and 50% effacement. On admission Non Stress Test--Reactive. No identifiable medical or obstetric complication present. No clinical evidence of cephalopelvic disproportion

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: High risk cases like antepartum haemorrhage,preeclampsia,diabetes complicating pregnancy,polyhydramnious,oligohydramnious,cephalopelvic disproportion,malpresentation and prelabour rupture of membranes.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Maternal pain relief assessed by using VAS(Visual analog Score). Timepoint: VAS score on as scale of 0 to 10.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Patient satisfaction score. Motor blockade using Bromage scale.Timepoint: Patient satisfaction score ranging from 1 to 10. Bromage scale ranging from 0 to 3.
