Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age above 18yrs. 2. Patients who have consented for the procedure. 3. Patients with CKD more than or equal to Stage 3 posted for elective surgical procedures. 4. Patients with normal renal function >60ml/min/1.73m2 posted for elective surgical procedures.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Patient who refuse to participate or consent for the study. 2) Emergency procedures 3) Pregnancy 4) Paediatric age group 5) Preexisting known oesophageal/gastric anatomical abnormalities/post-op status. 6) Patients coming to the preoperative unit with a Ryleâ??s tube. 7) Patients taking domperidone, metoclopramide or narcotics within the specified half life of the drug and coming for surgery

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Estimated gastric volume greater than 1.5ml/kg body weight or patients with particulate or solid content.Timepoint: Prior to premedication and induction of anaesthesia.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Delay in oral intake postoperatively.Timepoint: Postoperative period from immediate postoperatively upto 24 hours postoperatively, the time to first oral intake will be recorded and if any delays, the cause for delay will also be recorded.
