Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Married women in reproductive aged (18-45 years) Patients who fulfil at least three out of the four Amsel criteria (homogenous vaginal discharge, vaginal PH > 4.5, positive whiff or amine test and presence of clue cells) to diagnose bacterial vaginosis. Patients with positive Gram stain for BV by Nugent score
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Abnormal uterine bleeding, menstruation, frequent vaginal douche, alcohol and coumarin anticoagulants. Pregnancy and lactation, multiple sexual partners , on oral contraceptive pills and intrauterine devices. Specifc diseases such as liver disease, kidney and central nervous system diseases, blood dyscrasia, diabetes,immune defciency, and known venereal disease. History of hypersensitivity to metronidazole tablets. • Unwilling to abstain from alcohol for 3 days after treatment. Received concomitant antimicrobial therapy (topical or oral), or received a recent course (within previous 14 days) of antimicrobial or antifungal therapy.
