Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients undergoing major head and neck surgeries where blood loss is expected 2. Haemoglobin >10 gm/dl 3. ASA PS 1 and 2 4. Age 15 years to 70 yrs

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with haemophilia 2. Minor surgeries with minimal blood loss

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective of the study is to compare the measurement of haemoglobin concentration with arterial blood gas analyser to conventional laboratory methods during induction of anaesthesia among major head and neck surgeries.Timepoint: before induction

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary objectives include comparing haemoglobin values from arterial blood gas analyser to conventional laboratory method during 10% of maximum allowable blood loss and effect of haemodilution in the immediate postoperative period in haemoglobin values.Timepoint: at 10% blood loss, end of surgery
