Intravenous catheter insertion, maintenance procedure and use will be observed in patients requiring intravenous cannula. It is to understand the current procedure followed in hospital. Nurses and Doctors will be interviewed to identify the barriers and facilitators towards intravenous catheter.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients above 18 years with peripheral intravenous catheter. 2. Patients admitted through the emergency department. 3. Patients admitted in surgical wards (sf1, sf2, sf3, sm1, sm2, sm3, sm4). 4. Peripheral intravenous cannula inserted under the observation of a primary investigator (for peripheral intravenous catheter insertion observation).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients who do not require intravenous catheter. 2. Staff nurses not present during the study period. 3. Patients that cannot give consent.
