Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Children admitted in the PICU and requiring airway stabilization and mechanical ventilation. 2. Duration of intubation more than 24 hours and not exceeding 14 days.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1). Vocal cord anomalies and other anatomic abnormalities of the upper airways beforeintubation 2). Previous use of corticosteroids during hospitalization within the past 7 days. 3). Clinical contraindication for the use of corticosteroids. 4).Surgical trauma to the upper airway. 5).A history of previous upper airway obstruction ( subglottic stenosis) 6). Patients with pseudobulbarpalsy 7). Spontaneous extubation
