Interventions

Intervention1: Supplementation of zinc in recurrent wheezing children 6-24 months: zinc 20mg/5ml(intervention drug) and placebo (comparator group) for 14 days then subsequent visit on 7th and 14th day

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children from 6 months to 5 years of age with history of recurrent wheezing.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Children receiving zinc supplementation in past 3 months. 2.Children who are a.- severely malnourished. b.- On steroid therapy (last 7 days). c.- known immunodeficient. d- severely-ill children requiring hospitalization. 3.Clinical Suspicion of a.-congenital anomalies (vascular airway compression, primary ciliary dyskinesia) b.-Foreign body aspiration c. -Gastro esophageal reflux disease(h/o heart burn) d.-Tracheobronchomalacia.

MeasureTime frame
To study effect of Zinc Supplementation in reducing the frequency of wheezing episodes in children.Timepoint: 14 days supplementation (drug/placebo) followed by 5 months follow up

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To study in both groups: a) Duration of respiratory symptoms. b) Severity of wheezing episodes. - requirement for hospitalization - O2 requirement.Timepoint: 14 days supplementation (drug/placebo) followed by 5 months follow up
