Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Women with term pregnancy (37 to 41 completed weeks) undergoing elective or emergency cesarean section
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Women with clinical evidence of infection- fever or leucocytosis 2. Women already receiving or scheduled to receive antibiotic therapy for some other reason 3. Moderate anemia (hb at enrolment) 4. Known HIV positivity 5. Women with heart disease needing antibiotic prophylaxis from prevention of SABE 6. Second stage caesarean section 7. Rupture of membranes ( >24hours) 8. Women with penicillin allergy 9. BMI > 30 kg/m2
