Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: In order to study genetic susceptibility in Melioidosis patients, we will perform WES in 100 Melioidosis patients with the severe septicemic disease and 100 healthy controls (healthy controls will be those who are on treatment for diabetes and with similar characteristics and from the similar environment)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients below 18 years age.
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Identify epigenetic markers associated with disease acquisition and patient outcome in melioidosis.Timepoint: End of the study (5 years) | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 1. Melioidosis survivors vs. non-survivors to dissect immune components, pathways and genetic variations, which contribute to survival. 2. Healthy seronegative vs. healthy seropositive controls with the same level of environmental exposure (e.g. rice farmers) to investigate the underlying mechanisms of differential immune response. 3. Melioidosis survivors vs. healthy seropositive controls to presumably identify immune genes, which aid in the generation of a protective immune response. Timepoint: 5 years | — |
