Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All the patients with necrotizing fasciitis diagnosed in the Department of Surgery irrespective of age and sex will be included in the present study. Only pus, abscess aspirate and infected tissue samples from necrotizing fasciitis cases will be included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The superficial wound swab collected from patients with necrotizing fasciitis will be excluded from the study. The duplicates samples from same patient will be excluded from the study.

MeasureTime frame
1. To determine frequency of isolation of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria from cases of necrotizing fasciitis. 2. To assess the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the aerobic organisms. 3. To assess the antimicrobial susceptibility of anaerobic organisms against metronidazole and clindamycin by E test method. Timepoint: 3 months

MeasureTime frame
1. To determine the beta lactamase activity in anaerobic bacteria isolated from necrotizing fasciitis. 2. To identify the predisposing factors associated with cases of necrotizing fasciitis. Timepoint: 3 months
