Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult patients (18 â?? 65 year) of either sex, 2. Patients with isolated severe traumatic brain injury with GCS equal or less than 8, 3. Patients arriving in ICU with the isolated severe head injury within 24 hours of injury.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Age less than 18 year 2. Patients presenting after 24 hours of severe head injury. 3. Not willing to participate. 4. Patients with spinal trauma 5. Cardiac arrest before arrival to hospital 6. Transferred after stabilization and resuscitation from a tertiary care center 7. Patients with preexisting coagulation disorders such as haemophilia and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, and on anti-coagulant therapy 8. Pregnancy 9. Conditions predisposing to altered lactate levels: heart failure, respiratory failure, liver disease,chronic kidney disease,diabetic ketoacidosis, methanol/salicylate poisoning, patients on metformin/antiretroviral therapy
