Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Admitted to ICU with one or more of following parameters: emergent/major surgery (abdominal, intrathoracic, vascular), systolic BP <90 mmHg, need for mechanical ventilation, need for vasopressers, or arterial pH <7.31

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with a history of myocardial infarction, myocarditis, chronic heart failure, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, ejection fraction <40%, chronic pulmonary disease requiring long-term oxygen therapy or home mechanical ventilation, cor-pulmonale and pregnancy.
