Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients aged between 18 to 60 years belonging to American Society of Anaesthesiologists physical status classification 1and 2, undergoing scheduled elective surgeries under general anaesthesia (GA) with the presence of any one or more of the difficult airway predictors

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with neck deformity due to the following reasons: 1) Post-burn scar 2) Thyroid swelling 3) Previous tracheostomy scar 4) Neck abscess and 5) Previous neck surgery

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine the proportion of patients with sagittal variance of more than 1/15th of total length of cricothyroid membrane after optimized face mask ventilation in patients with anticipated difficult airwayTimepoint: Before induction of general anaesthesia and after optimized face mask ventilation

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To describe the average dimension of cricothyroid membrane in Indian population in terms of width, length of cricothyroid membrane and depth from skinTimepoint: Before induction of general anaesthesia; To determine the anatomical structure which occupies the previous location of cricothyroid membrane if there is any change in position of the cricothyroid membrane after optimized face mask ventilation Timepoint: After initiation of optimized face mask ventilation
