Intervention1: Pedal exerciser: All patients who undergo laparotomy who satisfies inclusion criteria have been randomized to undergo pedal exercise from day 2 to day 7 twice daily Control Intervention

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients above 18 years of age who undergoes emergency and elective laparotomy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who require immediate post-operative intensive care.
