Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria All the subjects 18 years and above would be included in this study. 1 To study the prevalence of naso-bronchial problems such as recurrent nasal discharge, chronic cough (COPD, bronchial asthma, recurrent bronchitis) and obesity related problems in the urban population of Moradabad. 2 To estimate plasma level of pollutants including heavy metals and toxic metals, in the urban population of Moradabad with reference to samples from the e-waste processing sites, as well as industry sites to assess their association of pollutants with risk of above diseases. Secondary. 1 To quantify heavy metal contaminants in soils, plants(fruits, leaves, flower,routes) and air samples from the e-waste processing site and industrial sites. 2 To detect the damage of DNA, RNA and chromatids in humans by examining genome and epigenome. Recommendations to governments, for the control of pollution for the better urban planning and development, for health promotion.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria: Subjects having chronic illnesses; cancer, chronic diarrhea and dysentery that can alter health indicators or non-volunteers, would be excluded. Justification for the conduct of the study: Previous studies conducted in the urban population of Moradabad among adults 25 years and above showed that the prevalence of obesity, central obesity, diabetes, hypertension and prehypertension are 2-3 fold higher among urban subjects compared to subjects in rural area. Clinical observations from physicians practicing at Moradabad has also revealed that respiratory problems such as naso-bronchial allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),bronchial asthma, recurrent bronchitis, nasal discharge due to common cold are more common at Moradabad compared to other cities (Personal communication). The exact cause of these differences are not known. Our hypothesis is that the differences in the prevalence could be explained by ambient pollution as well as due to pollution created by burning of E-waste in urban areas. It is also possible that urban population may have higher prevalence of respiratory diseases compared to rural areas because of increase in pollutants in these areas.
