Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) status 1 and 2. 2. Undergoing elective non cardiac surgery under general anaesthesia. 3. Non diabetic and type 2 diabetic patients on Oral antihyperglycemic agents.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patient refusal. 2.Pregnancy. 3.Known allergy to dexamethasone. 4.Patients previously/currently on steroids. 5.Short duration surgeries of less than one hour

To compare the effect of Intravenous dexamethasone injection on rise in blood glucose levels from baseline in diabetic and non-diabetic patientsTimepoint: 1. Baseline GRBS (CBG) will be measured prior to induction(T0) 2. Thereafter serial monitoring of GRBS (CBG) will be done every 60 min for next 240 minutes (T1,T2,T3,T4).
