Intervention1: 0.2% ropivacaine either as repeated intermittent boluses: (21 mL injected at a rate of 500 mL/h, every 3 hours Control Intervention1: continuous infusion: 7 mL/hr

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eligible participants will be patients scheduled for unilateral, primary TKA with spinal anesthesia, age 48 years old or older, with an American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification of Iââ?¬â??III, and with the ability to perform the timed up and go (TUG) test preoperatively.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include body mass index exceeding 40 kg/m2 , daily intake of ââ?¬Å?strongââ?¬? opioids (e.g., morphine, fentanyl) during the last 4 weeks, allergy to the medicines used in the study, rheumatoid arthritis, neuromuscular pathology in the lower limbs, pregnancy, inability to cooperate, non-Hindi speakers, and alcohol and/or drug abuse.
