Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Scheduled for elective diagnostic endoscopy procedures under general anaesthesia.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Gastro-oesophageal reflux (either on treatment or under investigation). 2. Severe cerebral palsy. 3. Enteropathies and achlasia and oesophageal stricture. 4. Diabetes mellitus with gastroparesis. 5. Renal Failure. 6. All acute and emergency conditions. 7. ASA grade III, IV and V patients. 8. Patients (Parents) unwilling to participate in the study. 9. BMI > 25.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the residual gastric volumes of two groups of pediatric patients who have been fasted for one hour and two hours for clear fluids over 6 hours solid food fasting. Timepoint: Duration of procedure, around 15 minutes

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To compare hemodynamic stability during induction. 2. To compare pre-operative anxiety of child, thirst and hunger. 3. To compare post-procedure agitation, nausea-vomiting and thirst. Timepoint: 1. Intra-procedure 2. Immediate pre-procedure 3. 2 hours post procedure
