Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Criteria for a chronic generalized periodontitis 1• Presence of a minimum of 15 natural teeth(excluding third molars) 2• Clinical and radiographic presence of pocket depth of 5-8mm and with generalized moderate alveolar bone loss and clinical attachment level of 3-4mm Criteria for smoking : 3• Smokers(who smoked atleast 5 cigarettes a day during at least 5 years)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Pregnancy or lactation • Use of antibiotics or periodontal treatment in the preceding 6 months • Concomitant medical therapy • Subjects with Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, tumours. • Any other systemic disease which can alter the course of periodontal disease.
