Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged >=18 years, 2. A clinical diagnosis of acute stroke (i.e. with a persistent neurological deficit on presentation) 3. Neurological deficit on presentation. 4. Present in the stroke unit during periods of data collection.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Planned immediate transfer from the Emergency Department (ED) 2. Transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or those admitted only for investigation 3. Consent could not be obtained 4. Unable to follow the patient up according to the protocol
