Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Systemically healthy 2. Moderate periodontitis (probing depth [PD]= 5 to 6mm 3. Clinical attachment level [CAL] 4 to 6 mm) 4. Vertical bone loss= 3 mm on intraoral periapical radiographs. 5. Patients with =20 teeth with neither a history of periodontal therapy in the preceding 6 months nor any antibiotic therapy were included in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Subjects with any systemic disorders (Cardiac disease, hepato-biliary disease, diabetes, thyroid and parathyroid abnormalities etc). 2. Subjects currently on antibiotics, steroids, or hormonal therapy. 3. Pregnant women, lactating women and women in their menstrual phase. 4. Smokers, subjects taking medicines known to affect periodontal conditions or gingival secretions.
