Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients with generalised severe chronic periodontitis with probing depth of greater than or equal to 5mm and CAL of greater than or equal to 5mm post-Phase 1 therapy with an average value of 3 teeth in each quadrant ( i.e test and control group) for each patient . 2.Patients who have not undergone any periodontal therapy in the past 6 months. 3.Subjects who have not taken antibiotics, anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive drug therapy in the 3 months prior to study. 4.Patients demonstrating acceptable oral hygiene prior to surgical therapy. 5.Patients willing to provide an informed consent for being included in the study, after the methodology is explained to him/her.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with history of Diabetes Mellitus, Heart disease and any other systemic disease.  2.Subjects who are chronic smokers and tobacco users  3.Patients with acute intraoral lesions  4.Patients with Grade III tooth mobility  5.Patient suffering from HIV/AIDS or other systemic infections 6.Patients undergoing radiation therapy   7.Pregnant and lactating females  8. Patients with aggressive periodontitis  Â

Aim of the Study: To compare the Clinico-microbiological and Radiographic outcomes of multiple adjunctive applications of a Diode Laser with Scaling and root planing versus that of Open flap debridement in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Timepoint: Baseline,1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months
