Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants of both sexes were included if (i) their BMI was >= 23 kg/m2 and (ii) they were able to perform mild to moderate physical activity.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants were excluded from the trial if they had (i) endocrine disorders (e.g., hypothyroidism, polycystic ovarian syndrome), (ii) drug-induced changes in the fat distribution (e.g., following the chronic intake of corticosteroids) and (iii) any other disease, some of which are complications of obesity (e.g., uncontrolled hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and type 2 diabetes mellitus).
