Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: For Patients 1. All consecutive freshly diagnosed cases of Portal Hypertension confirmed by any of 4 parameters: Clinical/Radiological/Histological or Endoscopically 2. Age less than 14 years For controls 1. Age and Sex matched controls 2. Healthy siblings of patients attending OPD/ IPD or patients with minor intercurrent illnesses 3. Children with body mass index within normal percentiles for age & sex

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: For Patients 1. Splenomegaly because of other etiologies- hematological/storage/infectious disorder 2. Patients of PHTN with splenectomy or after shunt surgery. 3. Patients receiving pharmacotherapy as primary or secondary prophylaxis 4. Patients receiving treatment for underlying liver disease viz., antivirals, steroids, d-penicillamine, anticoagulation etc., 5. Patients too sick to be transported to the SWE suite For Controls 1. Children with liver disease 2. Abnormal gray-scale US imaging 3. Presence of splenomegaly because of any cause

1.To study whether SSM differs according to etiology of Portal Hypertension (Prehepatic, Hepatic And Post Hepatic), in children with liver disease 2.To study whether combining Liver Stiffness with Splenic Stiffness as determined by SWE improves the predictive ability to diagnose Portal Hypertension and Varices, in children with liver diseases 3. To suggest normal values of splenic stiffness determined by SWE in healthy children (controls) Timepoint: At time of enrollment
