Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: •Systematically healthy patients and showing the absence of clinical manifestations of periodontal disease. •Chronic periodontitis patients having at least 20 natural teeth and minimum of 6 teeth with periodontal pockets >= 5mm and clinical attachment level >= 3-4mm. •All the patients should be systematically healthy and should not have received periodontal treatment for last 6 months prior to the clinical examination and sampling.Sample size was determined based on power analysis at a confidence interval of 90% (p

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: •Smokers •Systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis and other systemic diseases that can alter the course of periodontal disease. •Diseases of oral hard and soft tissue except caries and periodontitis. •Subjects on any medication taken within last 6 months which may alter the periodontal status. •Pregnant and lactating mothers.
