Intervention1: Calcium tablet supplementation: All the patients in the trial group will be given calcium tablets 500mg BD (twice) for 3 days prior to total thyroidectomy surgery Control Intervention1:

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients undergoing total thyroidectomy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with proven or suspicious of malignancy Elevated renal parameters(Serum creatinine- >1.2 mg/dl) Patients with conditions that could potentially affect serum calcium level: Musculoskeletal diseases Hyperparathyroidism Patients already on supplemental calcium and vitaminD Medications known to effect calcium levels
