Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)Patients above 30 years 2)Patients of either sex 3)Patients on statins for at least one year. 4)Non diabetic patients with fasting blood glucose <100mg/dl at the time of onset of statins.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Diabetic patients. 2)Patients on any concomitant medications thatmay raise blood glucose levels like fluoroquinolones, beta blockers, atypical antipsychotics, glucocorticoids, thiazide diuretics and proteasae inhibitors. 3)Pregnant and lactating women. 4)Morbid obesity i.e. BMI >30kg/m2

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1)No. of patients with new onset diabetes defined as Fasting blood sugar â?¥126 mg/dl. OR Those with pre diabetes i.e. fasting blood glucoseâ?¥110 mg/dl and 126 mg/dl. 2)Using the fasting blood glucose levels and insulin values, beta cell functioning, insulin resistance will be determined using HOMA and insulin sensitivity using QUICKI will be determined. Timepoint: Time Point: Patients were assessed at least after 1 year of statin usage.

MeasureTime frame
1. To find out the prevalence of risk factors such as age, sex and weight among statin users developing hyperglycemia. 2. To analyze the outcome of statins on beta cell functioning and insulin resistance using Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA) 3. To analyze the outcome of statins on insulin sensitivity using Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI) 4. To study the other side effects associated with statins. Timepoint: 1.
