Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Experimental group: 1. Patients in an age group of 18 to 30 years. 2. Self-reporting TMD Individuals with a minimum of 1 of the 3 cardinal symptoms of TMD: jaw pain, limited mouth opening, or TMJ noise. Control group: 1. Patients in an age group of 18 to 30 years. 2. Patients without any signs and symptoms of TMDs.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: EXCLUSION CRITERIA Experimental group: 1. Previous history of orthodontic treatment. 2. Patients with systemic diseases like, Systemic rheumatic, neurologic/neuropathic, endocrine, or immune/autoimmune diseases or wide spread pain. 3. Pathologic processes found on imaging including neoplasm (Exception: Disc displacements and osteoarthritis/osteoarthrosis). 4. Radiation treatment to the head and neck. 5. TMJ surgery. 6. Trauma to jaw in the last 2 months. 7. Unable to participate due to language barrier or mental/intellectual incompetence. 8. Use of narcotic pain medication, muscle relaxants or steroid therapy. 9. Use of antidepressant drugs. 10. Drugs interacting with sex hormones. 11. Ongoing orthodontic treatments. 12. Wearing dentures. 13. Contraindications for imaging. 14. Ongoing TMD treatments unless on a stable regimen for at least 2 months. 15. Unable or unwilling to give informed consent. 16. Presence of craniofacial anomalies. 17. Pregnant and lactating women. 18. Patient on oral contraceptives. Control group: 1. Patients with signs and symptoms of TMDs.
