Intervention1: IV magnesium sulphate (40 mg/kg ): IV magnesium sulphate (40 mg/kg ) infusion in 100 ml normal saline over 5 minutes, started 5 minutes before extubation Control Intervention1: IV esmol

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients undergoing elective surgery under general anaesthesia with endotracheal intubation. 2. ASA grade 1 and 2 3. Age 20-55 years 4. Weight 40-70 kgs 5. Both sexes

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients refusal to participate in the study 2. Allergy to study drugs 3. Patients with uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, hepatic or renal disease, bronchospastic disease ( ASA grade 3 or more ) 4. Emergency surgeries 5. Patients taking any adrenergic or psychotropic drugs 6. Patients with difficult intubation 7. Patients with Myasthenia Gravis or musculoskeletal disorder

MeasureTime frame
To assess the effect of IV Magnesium sulphate (40mg/kg ) and IV Esmolol (0.6 mg/kg ) during extubation on :1.Heart Rate (HR) 2.Systolic blood pressure (SBP) 3.Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) 4.Mean arterial pressure (MAP) 5.Rate pressure product (RPP) 6.ECG changes 7.Pain score-VAS 8.Ramsay Sedation score Timepoint: To compare the changes in above factors before extubation , at the time of extubation , 1min, 3mins, 5mins, 10mins and 15mins after extubation.

To observe for side effects if any-Drowsiness, Dizziness 2 Skeletal Muscle weakness 3 Cardiac Arrhythmias 4 Allergic Reactions Antidote Calcium Gluconate will be kept Ready. Following adverse events may occur after giving IV Esmolol- 1 Hypotension, bradycardia 2 Nausea, Vomiting 3 Anxiety 4 Drowsiness 5Headache Timepoint: To compare the changes in above factors before extubation , at the time of extubation , 1min, 3mins, 5mins, 10mins and 15mins after extubation.
