Intervention1: 10 ml of 10% dextrose solution: to be administered orally before induction of anaesthesia. Duration is half hour prior to shifting to operating room Control Intervention1: fasting chid

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Pediatric patients of either gender aged between one day to 12 years belonging to ASA grade I â?? III undergoing elective cardiac surgery for congenital cardiac disease will be included in this study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with diabetes, sepsis and metabolic diseases 2. Patients on ventilatory support 3. Patients on corticosteroid therapy 4. Patients who will not comply to the fasting instructions
