Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patient in Sepsis or septic shock on admission to ICU or who went into sepsis or septic shock in ICU will be included in this study.Once the patient is recruited into the study the following baseline characteristics will be recorded- demographic characteristics (age, gender, weight), primary diagnosis, source of infection, blood culture report (if available), day of ICU admission, day of inclusion into the study, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score will be obtained within 24 h of admission. 10 ml of venous blood , either from percutaneous route or central line will be obtained within 24 hours of the patient in Sepsis or septic shock on admission to ICU or who went into sepsis or septic shock in ICU.The quantification of the nucleosomes and TIMP1 will be done using Enzyme linked immunosorbant assay ( ELISA) All the patients will be followed till discharge from ICU or death in ICU.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria 1. Patients with advanced malignancy 2. Immunocompromised or transplant recipients 3. Radiation therapy 4. Coronary artery disease, Heart failure
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Comparing predictability of nucleosomes and TIMP1 in estimating sepsis mortality.Timepoint: Till patient is discharged from ICU or death in ICU | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 1. Evaluating the effects of circulatory levels of nucleosomes and TIMP1 in assessing disease severity and organ dysfunction.Timepoint: Sample will be taken once , within 24 hours of patient going into sepsis/septic shock.Patient will be followed till discharge/ death from ICU | — |
