Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: GROUP A 1.Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who are under treatment for atleast 6 months and are on oral hypoglycaemic drugs, and with Chronic Periodontitis. Patients categorized as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus should have 1)Random Blood Glucose >= 180 mg/dl and 2) Fasting Blood Glucose >= 126 mg/dl 3)Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels-7% or less. 2. Probing depth or clinical attachment level of 4mm or more in more than 30% of sites. 3. Age group between 20-60 years. 4. Patients with minimum complement of 20 natural teeth. GROUP B- - Systemically Healthy Patients with Chronic Periodontitis. 1. Probing depth of about 4mm or more in more than 30% of sites. 2. Age group between 20-60 years. 3. Subjects with minimum complement of 20 natural teeth. 4. Systemically healthy individuals with no underlying medical conditions. GROUP C- - Systemically Healthy Patients with Healthy Periodontium. 1. Age group between 20-60 years. 2. Subjects with minimum complement of 20 natural teeth. 3. Systemically healthy individuals with no underlying medical conditions

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients who had undergone Periodontal treatment in the past 6 months, 2. Patients with intake of Antibiotics or Anti- inflammatory drugs within 6 months prior to the study. 3. Patients those with 4. Patients who are Pregnant or Lactating mothers. 5. Patients with a history of Smoking and Tobacco chewers. 6. History of any Systemic disease other than Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 7. History of any Systemic disease for the group B and C 8. Patients taking Vitamin supplements
