Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All consenting patients to undergo one-lung ventilation during vats, asa grade 1-3, patients with one-sided lung pathology or non pulmonary pathology undergoing thoracic surgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patient refusal, age below 18 years and above 60 years, patients with bilateral pulmonary pathology, patients with obstructive or restrictive pulmonary pathology, mediastinal mass producing compressive effects, patients with hepatic or renal disease or coagulopathy, patients undergoing thoracic surgery via open thoracotomy approach, major intraoperative hemodynamic instability

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess and compare oxygenation (pao2/ fio2) during one-lung ventilationTimepoint: 20 minutes after induction of anaesthesia, 20 minutes after initiating one-lung ventilation and every hourly thereafter till one-lung ventilation continues

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess and calculate parameters of pulmonary dynamics during one-lung ventilation, including 1. Static compliance 2. Dynamic compliance Timepoint: 20 minutes after induction of anaesthesia, 20 minutes after initiating one-lung ventilation and every hourly thereafter till one-lung ventilation continues
