Interventions

Intervention1: 0.5% Bupivacaine with 2 % lidocaine: 4ml of 0.5% Bupivacaine plus 4ml of 2% Lidocaine ( Total 8 ml ) is injected as a single bolus into the peribulbar area of the eye and the duration

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. patients of age between 20 and 80 2. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) grade I and II 3. Both Male and Female 4. attending our tertiary care Medical College Hospital for elective cataract extraction and Intra ocular Lens Implantation surgery 5. up to a total of 80 numbers between the period from May 2018 to September 2018

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. patients with known allergy to study drugs, 2. patient refusal of local anaesthetic block, 3. high myopia, glaucoma, 4. ocular infection, 5. mental retardation, 6. uncontrolled hypertension 7. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

MeasureTime frame
1.measurement of duration of onset of block both motor and sensory by measuring Ocular and eyelid movements and loss of sensation over the conjunctiva 2.measurement of total duration of the block 3.assessment of differences in ocular movement scores at various time intervals 4. differences in eyelid movement scores at various time intervals Timepoint: every minute starting one minute from completion of peribulbar injection to the time when total akinesia and analgesia of the eye ball was achieved

1.Measuring Changes in heart rate mean arterial pressure 2.Measuring changes in Respiratory rate 3.Measuring changes in Saturaton of peripheral Oxygen 4.recording incidence of allergic reactions 5.Recording incidence of other adverse events like nausea vomiting , dryness of mouth 6.Assessing occurence of Pain or discomfort during surgery 7.measurement of Total analgesic requirement for the first 24 hours 8.assessment of Surgeon and patient satisfaction scores Timepoint: 1. every 5 min till the end of surgery 2. every 15 min while the patient remained in post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) for 2 hours.
