Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All subjects willing to participate in the study. Healthy control subjects with probing depth Gingivitis patients with probing depth =1 and Chronic periodontitis patients with 5 or more teeth with probing depth >=5mm and clinical attachment level >= 3mm and gingival index >=2 will be included in Group III. All the patients should be systemically healthy and should not have received periodontal treatment for at least 6 months prior to the clinical examination and sampling.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Smokers. Systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis and other systemic diseases that can alter the course of periodontal disease. Subjects on any medication taken within the last 6 months which may alter the periodontal status. Pregnant and lactating mothers. Any periodontal therapy in the last 6 months.
