Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.)Patients aged 12 yrs to 65 yrs undergoing elective/ emergency surgery in which LMA is being used as an airway adjunct 2.)Surgery expected to last 3.)ASA Grade I to III patients

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Refusal to participate in the study 2.Anticipated difficult airway 3.Known airway anomalies 4.Abnormal neck anatomy/neck tumor/swelling in neck area 5.Posted for Head, face or neck surgery 6.Facial trauma 7.Bowel obstruction, h/o gastroesophageal reflux, risk of aspiration, h/o neck surgery

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To validate focused airway sonography (FAS) and leakage test in diagnosing displaced/misplaced laryngeal mask airway against the fiberoptic laryngoscopyTimepoint: Immediately after placing LMA, leak test, ultrasound scan and fibroptic laryngoscopy done simultaneously

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To compare the time required for performing leakage test and FAS for evaluating LMA position 2. To compare the number of manipulations of LMA required based on leakage test and FAS examination 3.To compare the number of reinsertions required based on leakage test and FAS examination Timepoint: Secondary outcome assessed as soon as placing LMA, leak test, ultrasound scan and fibroptic laryngoscopy is done
