Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: who undergo ARFI (acoustic radiation force impulse) elastography for measurement of LS and SS as well those who undergo upper GI endoscopy and platelet count measurement as a standard of care in evaluation for cirrhosis will be recruited in to the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with ongoing gastrointestinal hemorrhage Portal vein thrombosis Intrahepatic malignancy Previous or current treatment for portal hypertension (beta blocker, TIPS/ balloon occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration), Pregnant women Those not giving consent will be excluded

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1)To evaluate Spleen stiffness v/s Varices Risk Score (liver stiffness, spleen size and platelet count) in predicting the presence of esophageal varices 2) To evaluate Spleen Stiffness v/s Varices Severity Score (liver stiffness, spleen stiffness and ascites) for grading the severity of esophageal varices with endoscopic grading as gold standard 3) Determination of SS cutoff values for detecting presence and high-risk varices in patients with cirrhosisTimepoint: primary outcome will be evaluated by 2018 september 30

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
With ARFI actual, no sedation during the procedure, potential cost savings for the patient no discomfort pre and post procedure as with endoscopy as well could be if this could be developed as a standard diagnostic tool for evaluation.Timepoint: September 2018
