Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients undergoing elective heart valve surgeries under cardiopulmonary bypass.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with deranged acid base metabolism pre-operatively. 2. Patients undergoing surgery for complex congenital heart diseases. 3. Patients with renal dysfunction (serum creatinine >1.5mg%).

To study the metabolic effects of Ringer Lactate and Plasmalyte-A as cardiopulmonary bypass prime in causing intra and post operative acidosis in valve replacement surgeries.Timepoint: 1. 5 minutes before initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 2. 30 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 3. 60 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 4. 90 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 5. After termination of cardiopulmonary bypass 6. After half hour stay in the ICU

a) To study the effect of Ringer Lactate and Plasmalyte-A as cardiopulmonary bypass prime on renal parameters ( urea, creatinine, creatinine clearance ). b) Effect of study fluids on blood pressure and cardiac rhythm in intra and post bypass period if any. Timepoint: 1. 5 minutes before initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 2. 30 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 3. 60 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 4. 90 minutes after initiating cardiopulmonary bypass 5. After termination of cardiopulmonary bypass 6. After half hour stay in the ICU 7. Kidey function test 24 hours before and after surgery
