Intervention1: Intercostal Nerve Block: 32 patients subjected to intercostal infiltration of one single dose of 0.25% Bupivacaine 5cc at the completion of PCNL after test dose. Control Intervention1

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All patients giving informed consent to participate in the study. 2. Patients with renal stones in whom PCNL operation was indicated and or necessary.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient not consenting for inclusion in the above trial. 2. Patients with pregnancy, mental disorders or illness who cannot understand or comply with the study protocol. 3. Patients in whom PCNL was contraindicated (uncorrected coagulopathy,CRF) , etc. 4. Patients with large stone burden, stone size >3cm in size, staghorn calculus, bilateral renal stone, ureteric stones and multiple renal stones needing multiple tracts 5. Patients with severe co morbidities (acute MI, bleeding diathesis, multi organ dysfunction)unfit for surgery/PCNL. 6. Patients with known h/o hypersensitivity/anaphylaxis/CI to Bupivacaine or its components

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Analgesic requirement & Post op pain VAS score at 6hrs,12hrs,24hrs,48hrs, Urine leak and fall in hematocrit. Timepoint: 6hrs,12hrs,24hrs,48hrs and time till discharge

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Total post op complications (Clavien grade), PCN indwelling time, Post op UTI and time to Return to work. Timepoint: Till time to discharge
