Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1 Patients undergoing elective surgeries under general anaesthesia. 2 ASA physical status 1 and 2 3 Patients willing to participate in study 4 Patients aged 18-55 years 5 Patients in whom airway difficulty is not anticipated

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1 Patient refusal 2 Patients with anticipated difficult airway Mouth opening less than 2 finger breadth Modified Mallampatti score 3 and 4 Thyromental distance of less than 3 fingers(6cm) Short and thick neck Maxillary incisors override mandibular incisors Cervical vertebral range of motion - Cannot touch chin to chest or cannot extend neck 3 Patients with ASA physical status 3 and 4 4 Patients with BMI 40kg/m2 5 Allergy to drugs in study 6 Chronic use of adrenergic agonists and antagonists 7 Pregnant women, lactating mother 8 Patients with ischaemic heart disease, hepatic, renal and other cardiac diseases 9 Patients with reactive airway disease and lower respiratory tract infections 10 Patients with raised intracranial pressure, epilepsy and cerebrovascular disease 11 Patients with intraocular hypertension 12 Patients with heart rate less than 60 b/min

comparision of the efficacy of dexmedetomidine and fentanyl in attenuating intubation response in simulated difficult airway.Timepoint: before administering drug after administering drug after induction immediate post intubation every minute till five minutes post intubation there after every two minutes till tenth minute post intubation
