Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients ( >18 yrs), with anticipated duration of mechanical ventilation greater than 48 hours with absence of pulmonary pathology as reason for mechanical ventilation will be included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients in whom there is anticipated difficulty in performing lung ultrasound, eg. thoracic surgery, thoracic trauma with ICD, obesity (BMI >40kg/m2) will be excluded from the study.
