Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children between 5 to10 years of age of either gender belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I and II, scheduled to undergo elective surgical procedure

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Children who are unable to speak Hindi or English, unable to communicate, having hearing or visual impairment 2)Children with developmental delay, psychomotor dysfunction, psychiatric illness, neurologic impairment, altered mental status, having underlying chronic pain condition 3)Children who are insufficiently arousable at the time of data collection 4)Children requiring postoperative intensive care

To compare electronic (smart phone) and paper version of color analog scale (CAS) as a self-reporting pain tool in children of 5 to 10 years of ageTimepoint: Preoperatively, at 15 min and 60 min in the PACU, before and 30 minutes after pain medication, if given, in PACU.—

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
â?¢ To compare pain assessed by parent, post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) nurse and investigating anaesthesiologist with that reported by child, using CAS (paper scale). â?¢ To determine childâ??s preference for electronic or paper version of CAS. â?¢ To compare pain assessed by PACU nurse and investigating anaesthesiologist using FLACC scale with that reported by child using CAS (paper scale). Timepoint: Preoperatively, at 15 min and 60 min in the PACU, before and 30 minutes after pain medication, if given, in PACU.—
