Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with age greater than 18 years, primary language should be Malayalam, right-handed according to Edinburgh handedness inventory, willing to co-operate for the study, motivated for speech therapy, diagnosed with expressive aphasia, and within the interval of 6 weeks to 6 months post-stroke.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients having receptive aphasia, having a pacemaker device or other metallic implants which are not MRI compatible, claustrophobic, and patients needing spectacles for short sightedness.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
BOLD up-regulation in the language areas such as Broca and Wernicke area as well as perilesional and contralateral regions.Timepoint: BOLD response is assessed during each session conducted once a week.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Western Aphasia Battery test. Picture naming task - performance with respect to correct score and time to respond.Timepoint: Western Aphasia Battery test and Picture naming task are assessed both before and after the four training sessions.
