Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children of age 2-18 years with thalassemia and serum ferritin >= 1500ng/ml

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children with 1. Serum creatinine more than two times the upper limit for age 2. Serum aspartate amino transferase and alanine amino transferase more than five times the upper limit for age 3. Children with absolute neutrophil count less than 1500/mm3 and platelets less than 1 lakh/mm3 4. Significant proteinuria defined by protein creatinine ratio more than 0.5 5. Cardiac failure secondary to myocardial iron toxicity 6. Previous history of allergic reaction to deferiprone or deferasirox
