Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Patients with a short neck. 2) Patients who are obese. 3) Patients who have a neck deformity/cervical cord injury 4) Neck mass/abscess 5) Deranged coagulation profile 6) Previous catheterization to similar site 7) Local skin inection/local atopic dermatitis

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To study the ,success and safety of external jugular vein versus internal jugular vein by catheterization using standard 7F triple lumen catheter in patients undergoing various cardiac surgeries in which use of central venous line is indicated following the landmark Seldinger technique. Timepoint: At the time when Cannulation will be attempted during the surgery to a maximum of 3attempts

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the ease of EJV catheterisation which has a greater visibility and shorter course avoiding close proximity to important blood vessels and nerve roots,to that of Internal jugularTimepoint: At the time when cannulation will be attempted in the OT to amaximum of 3 attempts
