Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Oral cancer group: Histopathologically confirmed cases of Oral cancer and who were above 18 years of age would be included. Potentially malignant lesions group: Histopathologically confirmed cases of potentially malignant lesions (leukoplakia, oral sub-mucous fibrosis) and who were above 18 years of age would be included. Tobacco users group: Known habitual tobacco users (of more than 1 year smoking or smokeless tobacco) and who were above 18 years of age would be included. Control groups: Healthy individuals, without the habit of tobacco, with no gross pathologies and who were above 18 years of age would be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with systemic disease, patient had a history of prior malignancy, immunodeficiency, other autoimmune disorders, hepatitis, or human immunodeficiency virus infection; and prior treatment in the form of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or alternative medicine, pregnancy or lactation
