Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Newly diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis (duration less than 2years) subjects, who have not been treated with any medication other than analgesics prior to study recruitment.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (i) patients who have been on steroids during the past year; (ii) known to have disorders of calcium metabolism such as malabsorption, hyperparathyroidism, chronic renal failure, renal tubular acidosis or pancreatitis; (iii) known allergy to DMARDs, 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D3 or calcium; (iv) patients unlikely for follow-up in the following 8 weeks; (v) patients unable to afford triple DMARD therapy; (vi) patients who were suspected to have vasculitis; (vii) and patients unable to mark the pain scale.
