Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) All patients presenting with resectable and bulky periampullary and pancreatic head tumors planned for pancreaticoduodenectomy will be included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Unresectable (locally advanced/metastatic) disease 2. Patients refusing consent for the study 3. Synchronous malignancy elsewhere 4. Patients treated with chemo/radiotherapy 5. Patients subjected to an earlier surgical exploration without tumor resection 6. Patients unfit for surgery

To study whether acute surgical hypoxia during pancreaticoduodenectomy, done for pancreatic and periampullary adenocarcinoma, is related to the generation of stemness.Timepoint: 3 years

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1) To study which genetic markers of stemness are induced by acute surgical hypoxia 2) To compare whole transcriptome of the intraoperative biopsy specimens obtained at different time pointsâ??. Timepoint: 3 years
